Yvonne Weatherhead

Yvonne is a local leader of education (LLE) supporting primary schools working in challenging circumstances. She has been the headteacher of Marland Hill Primary School in Rochdale for over twenty years and has led the school through four successful Ofsted inspections, the latest one reaching outstanding in all areas. Her contribution to leadership and management in all the inspections has been deemed to be outstanding also. She has been a federation headteacher of two primary schools. Marland Hill is a lead school in behaviour management and serves a socially disadvantaged community.

Yvonne has for many years led in-service training in circle time, behaviour management, active community learning, literacy and leadership throughout the North West region. Yvonne has written literacy, circle time and community learning books. Yvonne’s enthusiasm for the arts has encouraged many school visitors to comment on the creative and lively approach to teaching and learning and the interactive musical assemblies. The school has been awarded a Gold Artsmark award. Music, dance, movement and drama are used as a stimulus in all of Yvonne’s books. ‘Enriching Circle Time: Dream Journeys and Positive Thoughts’ was published in 2004 by Lucky Duck Publishing. ‘Creative Circle Time Lessons for the Early Years’ was published in November 2008 by Sage Publications Ltd. Weatherhead Projects Ltd published Yvonne’s upper Key Stage Two children’s novel “Starfly” in August 2008. In 2010 the follow up novel “Starfly the Detective” was published. Yvonne’s most recent publication “Active Community Learning through pupil & student voice” was published in September 2011.
